Initiatives
Avoided Deforestation Partners is as committed to sponsoring broad based initiatives that advance forest protection policies as we are to furthering technical policy efforts with practical outcomes. Toward this goal we have launched a range of initiatives that will be beneficial to everyone from governments to project developers, credit buyers and most importantly to those who live in the forest communities. We raise funds for and manage these initiatives in close cooperation with our network of experts and other stakeholders. The following are projects Avoided Deforestation Partners has recently launched.
"New Report on the Impact of Deforestation on U.S. Agriculture"
AD Partners releases report: "Farms Here, Forests There: Tropical Deforestation and U.S. Competitiveness in Agriculture and Timber"
Destruction of the world’s tropical forests by overseas timber, agriculture, and cattle operations has led to a dramatic expansion in production of commodities that compete directly with U.S. products. Protecting tropical forests will boost revenues for producers by up to $221.3 billion. The report includes state-by-state and industry-by-industry data for beef, soybean, oilseed, timber and ethanol production

"Unity Agreement": Historic U.S. Forest-Climate Agreement
AD Partners initiates and brokers landmark Tropical Forest and Climate Unity Agreement
AD Partners is pleased to have facilitated a milestone forest-climate policy agreement among prominent U.S. environmental, conservation and development groups in addition to power sector companies and other corporate interests. A further outcome of this initiative has resulted in the creation of a self-governing Tropical Forest and Climate Coalition, whose principal goal is to advocate the inclusion of all elements of the unity agreement in U.S. legislation.

"Call for U.S. Leadership"
AD Partners announces "Call for Leadership" to urge U.S. Congress to take swift action on climate change legislation.
At the Avoided Deforestation Partners September 2008 lunch event in New York, featuring Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Al Gore, Jr. and Professor Wangari Maathai, a "Call for Leadership" initiative that will urge the U.S. Congress to take a global leadership role in reducing deforestation was launched before the audience and international press. The REDD Methodology Project
AD Partners launches effort to develop VCS Baseline and Monitoring Modules for Projects that Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD)
In the summer of 2008, AD Partners launched its REDD Methodology Project. The initiative is bringing together a group of internationally recognized climate policy experts to develop a series of freely available methodology modules for advancing Avoided Deforestation projects. These modules will enable project developers to estimate the real emission reductions of projects that reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation ("REDD").

Sub-National/National Integration Project
Building on September 2008 workshop, AD Partners launches initiative to create REDD mechanism that integrates national and subnational approaches.
To follow up on its September 23, 2008 workshop on "The various levels of REDD: Making REDD work for forest nations and local stakeholders", AD Partners is launching a new effort to ensure that national and sub-national crediting and implementation approaches are compatible. AD Partners will convene a group of 6 - 12 stakeholders representing civil society, indigenous peoples, and the business community to draft a possible REDD mechanism that integrates project level activities into national accounting schemes.
